Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between use of social network service and mental health(depression, anxiety and self-esteem), social health(personal relations and social support).
Method: The subject of this study was 320 university students who are living in Daegu. The data was collected by using self reported questionnaire, and data was analyzed by using SPSS for windows ver 19.0.
Result: First, there were significant differences in personal relation’s factors(confidence, sensitivity, openness) according to use of SNS. Second, usage of SNS correlated positively with anxiety and depression level, negatively with selfesteem and personal relation’s satisfaction and friendliness level. There were no relations between health and how many personal connection users have. Finally, according to research, factors in mental health correlated with factors in social health.
Conclusion: Relation between mental, social health and usage of SNS identified in this study can have an impact on campaign of preventing addiction to SNS, warning excessive use of the SNS. This study can be utilized for future studies as the basis of education on proper SNS use.
